Bought a Netgear Router to try to get two computers working off one phone line.and just cannot get it to work. Has anyone else had this problem please?

You can connect two computers without a router, simply by connecting the ethernet ports, then one of them can connect to the internet and the other can share the connection by way of the Windows Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) facility. I'm doing it right now and it all works fine. Send your router back!

Normally router is from high speed to high speed. So you need to apply high speed internet first. Or you need a dial up router which is very difficult to find these days.
