Can a genuine (legit) Windows XP serial code work for multiple computers?

Say, if I purchase 1 Windows XP home edition. Will I be able to install it on say 3-4 computers with the same serial code and be able to download any windows updates and stuff like that? Is there also a limit to how many computers I can install the XP software on?

The Windows XP authentication system prevents you from installing multiple copies of the operating system. The authentication uploads your hardware information and compares it to your current configuration every time you reinstall the software. Even worse, if you choose to replace a few things in your computer, and then must reinstall windows, you'll most likely be asked to authenticate by phone because your system hardware has changed too much.

i think it will install the windows ,

but it will not be genuine
in xp you can do that if you buy a retail version not an oem, it is not legal, but what are you gonna do?
You will not be able to do that legally. The license is for a single install.
You will not be able to install it on more than one computer. The license will only be for one, so when you try to activate a second computer, it will not let you. As it will not be activated, you will not be able to download updates that require ''genuine microsoft products''.
If you use the same CD, yes you will be able to install Windows on multiple computers using the same serial key.

May I remind you that It is still illegal as you will have only purchased a license for use on only one computer !

Regarding updates, I really don't know ! Microsoft keeps researching newer technology to prevent people from illegally accessing updates !
No, unless you have more that 1 licenses. And since you only have one code, no way.
