How can i Establish network connexion between 2 Computers?

Ok I'm blue at this stuff %26 i need some advise. heres some info for you.



- Both Computers use Windows Xp sp2



- Using two Difrent Network Cards (one a D-Link external one the other using the internal one in the mother board)



- I don't use any router or Switch since the 2 are next to each other %26 i use a standard Network cable



- Both say the same thing when linked together (the yealow status Network icon saying something about the Limited Connection %26 The IP address



- Both Correctly installed %26 work fine.



So what do i do to fix them %26 how to get a new IP address %26 What to do to be able to make both work?



I'm an Administrator so i have all the access to the win Xp

First you need a crossover cable (special kind of ethernet cable that allows you to communicate between two computers directly. Normally a router/switch handles this 'cross talk' for you)

Well since i also have 2 computers in my house, i have one connected with the ethernet cable, and the other with the USB cable. Sorry for not being much help^_^
The easiest way would be to invest in a switch, but you can do it like you have them set up now if you use the right cable. Do NOT use a regular ethernet patch cable. Use a ''crossover'' cable instead. It will switch the wires around so you can both transmit and receive data.
