In my opinion the quickest way is to enter clearly wrong information when prompted..for example, if the machine says, ''enter your phone number'', enter a clearly false number, like ''222-222-2222''. Or if they ask for social sec no., enter ''123-456-789''

Enter the fake number again. The machine will respond the same way.

Usually, on the 3rd attempt they'll say, ''Okay, one moment, I'm trasferring you to a representative..''

The easiest way would be to invest in a switch, but you can do it like you have them set up now if you use the right cable. Do NOT use a regular ethernet patch cable. Use a ''crossover'' cable instead. It will switch the wires around so you can both transmit and receive data.

There are different kind of RAMs for different kinds of board architecture, some motherboard architectures supports SDRAM e.g. Pentium 3 architectures. While Pentium 4, Celeron D, and some AMD architectures support DDRAM, DDRAM2. In short, different computers runs different types of RAMs.

You don't mention which OS you're using, but Windows XP allows you to configure one PC as a bridge through which you can connect other PCs to the Internet. I wouldn't do it, however, because dial-up speeds are too slow even for a single PC.

Most likely, your phone or cable company can provide an ADSL connection through your phone line or TV cable. Your phone line would be free for phone calls even while on-line, so you don't need any extra lines. Price would be comparable -if not cheaper- than a 2nd phone line and 2 dial-up accounts. I am trying to gain a little more knowledge about computers before I start working on building my own. I know all of the basics and even a little bit of the advanced stuff just from personal experience and messing with my PC. It's just when the numbers and letters start flying around that I lose what is going on. I want to learn more in general about the cables, hard disk types, ports, processor #s, motherboards, cooling systems, power sources, BIOS... you know, things that take a little more than a look around inside your PC to figure out. I just thought that maybe someone might know of a really good reference book or guide that would be worth looking at. Maybe someone who has taken classes that would know a good book that they used in class to learn more of the advanced details. Hopefully that makes sense. I just want to move up to the next level of PC knowledge is all. Now that I know all of the basics!

You transfer music between two computers, just like you transfer documents, pictures or video.

Either you make a local network between both :

- If both have an Ethernet connector, you just need a cheap ''cross-over'' or ''twisted'' Ethernet cable.

- If both have a Wifi card, you can make a local wireless network.

If both are in a network and sharing playlists is switched on in iTunes, then you can listen to tracks from another computer, without copying the music.

When you do not want or can not make a local network, you need to transfer the files via a portable medium : a USB stick, a CD disc, a removable hard drive. (Uploading them to the internet, or mailing them to yourself is also possible, but not practical for thousands of files.)

If you have an iPod with enough free space, you can use that as a removable hard drive.

Connect it to the computer BUT NOT WITH ITUNES, just drag the music to and from the hard disc.

Eventually you can empty the iPod first to make room, before copying everything to the same computer and then fill it with iTunes again.

Two computers cannot directly control the same drive. The equipment does not have the intelligence to manage it.

There are two possible ways. Both require a home network:

1) Connect the drive to one of the computers, then network to the other computer through a router, and turn on File Sharing. Then the connected computer will manage the drive and the access from the other computer.

2) If your external drive came with the ability to connect to a home network, connect it to the router with either CAT5 cable, or with USB to a network interface box. Then connect both computers to the router with CAT5 cable. Now the drive will be accessible to both computers as a 'network drive'.

I don't know, you can try connecting using 2-to-1 usb connecter.
You cannot do this in that way. In spite of connecting it both USB and Firewire, plug your external drive using USB to one of the computers. Then share it on the network (I'm supposing you have a basic network between them using CAT5 Crossover cable.)

Then go into My Network Places. Read-Execute-Delete whatever you want.

One device cannot be connected both USB and Firewire at the same time. It's like to speak from your stomach and mouth at the same time. :)

Yes there's no problem with that.

The only issue is if the game requires the CD to run. Only one of you can play.

You can however use Virtual CD to overcome this problem.
Read the EULA (End User License Agreement) that you agreed to when installing the game. Some games allow you to install it on multiple machines, but most say you're allowed to install on just one.

Yahoo has been having major server issues since at LEAST Jan. 10, seemingly just with particular servers. And what's happening to you is unfortunately one of the many problems that people are having because of them, and Yahoo doesn't seem to be in any particular hurry to solve them. And the problems are not just w/Yahoo Beta or IE7; I and others not using either are having similar problems. But both do have more problems; if you're using Beta, it's still in the testing stage and has a lot of problems, so go back to original Yahoo mail, and the same w/IE7, go back to IE6 until MS irons out all the problems.

I've had to use another acct.provided free by my ISP to send/rcv important e-mails since Jan. 10, and it's been working just fine the whole time. If you don't have another acct.w/another provider besides Yahoo, I'd strongly advise to get one; it makes a good backup in case of problems like this.

Unless you plan to run cables through the wall between the computers, or have existing CAT5 (Ethernet) wiring in place; I would setup a wireless router in the center of the building and get either PCI Wireless cards or USB Wireless Ethernet adapters.

If you have existing Ethernet wiring, you would need a hub or switch and CAT5 (Ethernet) cabling as well as a NIC (Ethernet card) in each machine.

Using a modem would require a dedicated phone line for each machine, and they could only connect (at very slow speeds) to 1 other machine at a time.

The easiest way will be to run the systems through a hub using RJ45 connections. This way would be the easiest and the cheapest. If you every think that the systems would need to connect to the internet then installing wireless cards and using a wireless router would probably be your best bet. Easiest way is with a wireless router. Then you would need wireless cards on each computer. The router will come with instructions on set up etc etc.
Jordan has the right idea, while a RJ45 wired LAN would give you faster speeds to transfer data between the computers, it doesnt make sense for the distance you have to travel.
I think a wireless setup would be the best. You will need to have a modem to connect to the Internet. Then connect your modem to a router--a wireless one. Then put wireless ethernet cards in your computers. It should work fine.

And the DVD that comes with the router should have all the instructions you need. Setting this stuff up is all pretty painless nowadays---it seems like all you have to do is answer a few questions and the software takes care of the rest.

If these are YOUR computers, and YOU own them, GO FOR IT. But if you work for a school system, then talk with your supervisor or IT department about this issue.

For Windows XP, you can probably configure a STUDENT account, where all of these icons have been removed. This LIMITED account should have some of the system tools made unavailable. But create a password for the Administrator or Teacher account.

This is making me CrAzY! I'm sure it is so simple that I am making it hard. I already have DSL(3 yrs) through Centurytel w/Netopia modem they provided. Now I want to hook up 3 more computers(all XP) in my large home. My main computer w/DSL has no slot for ethernet so it is through the USB port. My dilemma is wireless or not. And what the heck is a HUB?? My home has a down stairs w/phone lines in all rooms(11). What is a complete list I will need to hook up all three to my DSL? 2 downstairs. I mean a list from the Ethernet adapter down to wiring, routers, modems, hookups, wall plug ins etc. Should it be wireless? My home is really big. But the think is you have to send them a small program once they click on it, the program will run all the time it will start every time they boot-up there computer. but this is the only way since.. itune is not intelligent enough to identify your music files when the path is changed. like when u move a file from your My Music folder to a subfolder in it. iTune cannot search for it automatically. So, it is no need to say what happens when u change ur PC. But, choose the organizing function which stores all the songs in your itune in a seperate folder and backing up that folder would make you easy. That folder is probably in the MyMusic folder as default. U can change the path

If the printer is connected physically to computer 1, then on computer 1, open Control Panel/ Printers %26 Faxes. View installed printers. Locate the printer, right click on it, and choose Sharing. Move the dot to ''Share this printer'', click Apply and then OK.

Now, right click on My Computer, and go to Properties, then the Computer Name. Write down what workgroup this computer is in.

Now go to Computer 2. Right click on My Computer, go to Properties, then Computer Name. If the workgroup is different on this one, click the Change... buttom and type in the workgroup that Computer 1 is in. If you had to change it, you will need to restart Windows for the new workgroup to 'kick in'. If it was already the same, just close out w/o changing anything.

I have a desktop and a laptop. The desktop runs XP and the laptop Vista. I am using Outlook 2003 on both computers. At first I was having trouble getting the calendar to sync onto the laptop at all, but I changed the settings and it synced. However, I added a bunch of dates using my desktop, synced to my phone (which worked just fine) and then tried to sync to my laptop from the phone. No go. I did a test and it will take info from the laptop to the phone, but not from the phone to the laptop. Help?

I'll expand a little on the first answer. As he said, there are 3rd party companies involved in producing the components for computer makers. Lets use my Hewlett-Packard as an example. It has a motherboard that is made by MSI, a company that manufactures motherboards, graphics cards, and other PC components. Most likely, HP put their desired specs on paper - like how many PCI slots, what processor socket type, number of RAM slots and how much RAM to support, etc. This way HP can ensure that the motherboard they'll be buying is consistent for the models it will be used in, and that it only has the features they've asked for...no extras that would increase the price.

Install a Proxy server like Winproxy on the computer that shares the internet instead of ICS. You can control and see what they access.

VNC will do what you are looking for. It is simple to setup on Win32 and comes in just about every other OS flavor under the sun. It can be tuned to work well even at dialup speeds. There are a few variants out so you do have quite a selection. Below is one that I have used and can verify that it works well.

Hmmm... this is an interesting question that has been asked for many years by many great minds. But, the question in this form is just unanswerable--but it is unaswerable in any form right now.

First we must define what intelligence is. We can simply say that intelligence is the computational ability of humans. This may not be the best definition, but it is essential asking, ''will computers ever be as smart as humans?''

Even defining intelligence by referencing human brain power doesn't help us very much, because there is so little known about the brain. When you solve a math problem we have no idea what your brain did to get to the solution, thus AI is as much a problem cognitive and nuero science right now as it is for computer science. Assuming we could figure out exactly how the brain thinks, then it is reasonable to believe that we could build a machine to follow this thought process (but this would probably calculate very differently from the computers we have today).

This last approach focused on changing the hardware of computers in order to acheive AI. This is only one approach. Another would be to look at the software and attempt to control the hardware we currently have available. There has been much progress in this area. Look at the video games of today. It is pretty amazing how good the AI of some games is today. Your digital enemy reacts to your each and every move, some games (some of the new football games) even ''learn'' your style of play and will play differently against you than they will other people. These feats are pretty impressive, but they boil down to little more than storing what you have done in the past and looking up some reaction that they are suppose to make to your action. Really on the basic level it is just manipulating bytes of data or shifting or adding 1's and 0's.

Well the easiest way might be to get a wireless router, you will need a router anyway and get wireless cards for your computers. That way you will not need any cables and you will be free to move computers around in your home if you want to later without rewiring.
Look into wireless, it's not that costly and just as fast as wired internet, plus no more cables to worry about.

you can use a router that gives a wi fi connection but i recoumend switching to verizon dsl because it is 13 times faster than dial up and you can use the phone at the same time and it is onely 18 bucks a month believe me people in my family have all switched to dsl after we got it and they used it

you can get a KVM switch where you can use one keyboard, video and mouse (KVM) and switch between them.

ebay you can get plenty

but i don't know of anything that will allow you to move your mouse to teh edge of one screen of one computer and make it appear on the other.

Save all your data to the server. Then you won't lose anything. Do not use the same copy of XP for all of them, this will kill your activation key.

There's no reason you couldn't back up your data on the stable computer over the network.

Given your apparent talent for bringing down so many machines at once, it may be wise to get a NAS device. Then, you can create disk images of your computers for backup every week or so. That way, you could clone it back to the way it was a week ago rather than starting from scratch.

Remove the firewall on both PCs (turn it off in security center) and also run the network setup wizard on both and make sure you have the PCs in the same workgroup.

It's really simple, you should just connect all the computers to the router (any form, wireless or wired) and enable the file sharing on all your PC's.

Here is the way to activate it.

Make a right click on the folder you want to share%26gt; Click Properties%26gt; Press the sharing tab%26gt; Click Share This Folder On My Network%26gt; Put a name for it%26gt; Click Apply%26gt; Click Ok.

And if that doesn't work restart your network and run the soft-ware that came with your router.

If you are lucky your LCD had 2 video inputs that you can switch between using buttons on the display.

If not, go for a KVM (Keyboard Video Mouse switch) and share all 3 desktop bits. You can get KVMs that handle sound or USB as well... for more money.
